The Perfect Museum of Me
The Perfect Museum of Me was a 2 year collaborative project between Helen Garbett, Bill Laybourne and people with learning disabilities, autism and mental health needs.
Co-created as a series of 10 weekly workshops, our work begins with an object that is significant to each of us. Using the museum as a frame our object becomes an artefact that we research, narrate, and present and in the process learn about ourselves and each other.
The museum(s) are then successively added to and exhibited as part of a growing installation that collectively explores who we are and where we belong.
The project ended rather abruptly in March 2020 due to Covid-19 restrictions, however we successfully engaged over forty participants and attracted an audience of more than 500 people over the two years.
Objects and artworks have been returned to the participants that made them...
